(engravers, sculptors, painters of the Renaissance)
Known by the name that derived from their father's profession ( Pollaiolo ), a poultry vendor. Antonio Benci (Florence 1431 - Rome 1498)
Piero Benci (Florence 1441 - Rome 1496) Antonio, more gifted than his brother Piero, is one of the first engravers in history. He initially works as an goldsmith drawing inspiration from Donatello's sculpture, following the teachings of Domenico Veneziano, Andrea del Castagno, Paolo Uccello and being under Donatello's influence. The brothers work together in almost all of their woks, giving particular attention to the study of anatomy and experimenting a new expressive technique meant to capture the characters' movement. Their common tomb is found in S.Pietro in Vincoli.
