He worked in Rome on Michelangelo's footprints, of whom he was the most scrupulous and intelligent follower, he flexuously tempered his own gigantism to every one of Michelangelo's mannerisms next to Sodoma and Peruzzi, his former teachers. In his pictorial production, scant and qualitatively unequal, some works must be recalled: the friezes in Palazzo Massimo and Palazzo Farnese, and the fresco of the Deposizione (Deposition) , sadly quite ruined, in S. Trinità dei Monti, 1541-46 (iter 7). Of his sculptures, the best one is Michelangelo's bronze bust, of which many replicas exist. Paolo IV gave him the task of veiling Michelangelo's nudes in the Last Judgement and this fact earned him the mock name of “Braghettone” (Underwear-man) (iter 9)
